I bet most of you have never heard of a pork burger. Neither had I until I moved to Southern Illinois. I'll never forget the first time someone told me they were going to a fund raiser cookout to get a pork burger. You're going to get a what?? Of course the culinary curiosity in me followed along. When we arrived at he "Pork Burger" sale, my olfactory nerves were greeted with the most scrumptious smell. Oh snap I thought... I'm getting myself one of these things. The rest is history.
Now for those of you not in the know. A pork burger looks a lot like a regular hamburger. Except of course the patty is made of pork rather than beef. Let me assure you that the similarity ends there. The taste is heavenly. It's really hard to even put in words. You would expect it to taste like, say, a breakfast sausage patty. WRONG. However, it doesn't taste like a burger either. It's really more like the savory taste of a beautiful pork chop only in a burger patty. I know... Crazy right!
Let's just say if you ever get a chance to try one, don't miss out.

Lickety Split This Is It! Breakfast is Served
I don't know about you, but in the morning it is sooooooo hard to get out of the warm bed sometimes. Especially in the winter, when you know that the hard wood floors are going to be FREEZING! If you're like me, you probably abuse your snooze button. (I do A LOT)

How cool is that! Quick - Easy - and a whole lot healthier than that nasty McDonald's.
Here is a link to this recipe and more. Quick Food
Unfortunately, when you hit that sweet little button to many times, you find yourself running late. At times, REALLY late. Now you've missed breakfast. So you head to the McDonald's drive through to get something fast to eat. Oh and it's loaded with all the good stuff a growing boy needs. (That's sarcasm if you missed it.)
The other side effect of too many McDonald's stops... pants that don't fit.
But how do we make a health breakfast when we don't have time you ask? Well check this out:

Bath Time - Where's My Rubber Duckie?
The Roman empire was an impressive beast. Some of the engineering marvels that they accomplished are absolutely staggering. Plumbing, concrete that would set up under water, aqueducts, and so on. While some things are quite obvious about the ancient Roman civilization, some things are still hard to discern.
For instance what did they like to eat? What was a favorite past time? Did they play games? Those are the kinds of things that can be really difficult to uncover. (It's easy to look at an aqueduct and figure out it's purpose.) Sometimes you get lucky and find some writings about what went on, however, even those can be incomplete pictures of the daily activities.
Researcher Alissa Whitmore, a doctoral candidate in archaeology at the university of Iowa has come up with an ingenious way to take a look at the habits of the Roman's while using the bath houses.

Pompeii Bath
By studying the material lost in the drain of these bath houses, they have been able to speculate about some of the activities that took place. They found the obvious items such as jewelry, perfume vials, and nail cleaners. They also found pieces of dish-ware and bones that suggest that they took meals at the baths. Additionally, they found teeth and a scalpel, suggesting that some medical procedures may have also taken place.
Of course we will probably never know for sure all that went on at the baths, however, research such as Whitmore's is certainly giving us a better picture.
