Lazy Saturday

As a child, I remember really loving Saturday mornings. You would get to sleep in and once everyone was up, dad would fix breakfast. Man-O-Man... my dad could cook breakfast. It's where I got my mad breakfast skillz. LOL. He would make pancakes from scratch or would make us hot chocolate. I know what you're asking... What the heck is hot chocolate??

It's a breakfast (or any other meal for that matter) dish that was passed on from my grandfather Fred Jake to my dad Tom Jake to me and hopefully passed on to my children and grandchildren. It's VERY simple.

Here is what you'll need -

Hot chocolate ( I prefer it made with milk )

Bread
Peanut butter
Butter - optional
Honey - optional
Marshmallows (this is a MUST)

Okay.. get your hot chocolate going. Then toast your bread. Once the bread is toasted, spread a healthy portion of peanut butter on the toast. You can also add butter (makes it taste richer), or honey. Once you've topped your toast take the other slice and make a sandwich. Cut the sandwich down the middle. Your hot chocolate should be done. Pour it into a coffee mug, add the small marshmallows and your ready to go. Now take your toasted peanut butter sandwich and dip it in the hot chocolate.

There you have it... an inexpensive and filling breakfast.

I love lazy Saturdays!

Lickety Split This Is It! Breakfast is Served

I don't know about you, but in the morning it is sooooooo hard to get out of the warm bed sometimes. Especially in the winter, when you know that the hard wood floors are going to be FREEZING! If you're like me, you probably abuse your snooze button. (I do A LOT)

Unfortunately, when you hit that sweet little button to many times, you find yourself running late. At times, REALLY late. Now you've missed breakfast. So you head to the McDonald's drive through to get something fast to eat. Oh and it's loaded with all the good stuff a growing boy needs. (That's sarcasm if you missed it.)

The other side effect of too many McDonald's stops... pants that don't fit.

But how do we make a health breakfast when we don't have time you ask? Well check this out:

How cool is that! Quick - Easy - and a whole lot healthier than that nasty McDonald's.

Grandpa Jake's Cheap Breakfast

Growing up, my dad would be the one who would cook breakfast on the weekends. Not always, but most of the time. I learned how to cook omelets, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and even crepes from my dad. Now, I love to cook breakfast for my wife and kids. One of our favorite dishes was hot chocolate. Now I can see your wheels turning already. Hot chocolate?? Say what??

Let me elaborate. At the Jake house, when you say I want hot chocolate for breakfast, we do not mean the cup of hot beverage. (It's part of the dish, but not all of it.) Here it's a bit more than just the drink.

You start by toasting two pieces of bread. While that's going, make your cup of hot chocolate. (I prefer mine to be made with milk. Oh, and make sure you have marshmallows) Once the toast is done, spread a generous layer of peanut butter on one of the pieces of toast. Now here is where you can have some variation. You can stop with the peanut butter or you can add butter on the other piece. If you really want to jazz it up, you can add honey to the mix. Once you have everything spread onto the toast, make a sandwich out of it and cut it in half.

Now your hot chocolate should be done in the microwave. Make sure you add your marshmallows if you have them. Place the cup of hot chocolate on a plate along with your sandwich. Get a tall glass of water for the side and your ready to go.

Here is the best part. You dip your sandwich into the hot chocolate. It is soooooo scrumptious! And it's filling. So there you have it, a simple, inexpensive, and filling breakfast.

Enjoy!
