Hot, Hotter, Holy Crap!

My wonderful wife fixed me white chicken chili last night for dinner. I love it because it has a good spicy kick and it's at a good level for me. Not so hot that I blister, but hot enough to cause my nose to run. So today, while I was home for lunch, I had... you guessed it, left over chili. I like to surf videos while I eat and I came across one that was about the hottest peppers in the world. (appropriate for what I was eating)

Now all my friends tell me that the hottest pepper in the world is the Ghost Chili. Well not anymore. It has not only been moved into second place, it has been dominated!

A peppers heat is ranked on a scale developed in 1912. It's the Scoville Scale and it measures the Capsaicinoids (the chemical in the pepper that is hot) in a pepper to gauge its heat potential.

Now to give you a frame of reference:

A bell pepper = 0 scoville

A jalapeno pepper = 3,000 to 8,000 scoville ( This is about all I can handle )

The former champ, the ghost chili pepper = 1,000,000 scoville (yes that is 1 million)

Impressive... that is until you look at the Trinidad Scorpion Maruga Pepper!

It ranks at 2,000,000 scoville! DOUBLE that of the former champion.

So there you have it.... all you ever wanted to know about peppers... LOL

Here is the video I watched. Its worth 12 minutes of your time.
