Warp Factor Two Mr. Sulu

Star Trek is one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time. To say that I'm ready for the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness would be an understatement. One of the coolest parts of the show is the warp drive technology. How cool would it be to travel across the galaxy in a few weeks.

At several times through the show they travel at various warp speeds. During a few episodes the ships traveled as fast as warp 14.1, however, in later shows a warp 10 cap was placed on ships. Someone who has a whole lot math knowledge came up with an equation to determine how fast warp really was. Here is the equation that they came up with....

v = w3c

V= VELOCITY     W= WARP FACTOR      C= SPEED OF LIGHT

So based on this equation, warp 1 is the speed of light, warp 2 is 8 times the speed of light, warp 3 is
27 times the speed of light and so on. What they decided was that warp 10 was so fast, the ship would
essentially be everywhere at the same time. Hence the reason in later shows the ship could not exceed
warp 10.

Here is a nifty chart that I found.....

See you on the other side of the galaxy.
