Today is going to be a fun afternoon. Our church is hosting a fun day at a place called Walter's Fun & Golf. They have pizza, putt putt golf, video games, and lazer tag. To say that I'm excited is a bit of an understatement. I can't wait for the lazer tag game. With a little luck I'll be teaming up with my buddy Blaine. And we will be UNSTOPPABLE!! LOL... well maybe not... but we will have a lot of fun.
Now I know what your thinking, this guy is an adult. Well I know some people may be to dignified to play video games or lazer tag. But I think it's important to get out and get a little undignified every now and then. It's a great thing to let out your inner child. When you let loose and have a little fun, especially with your kids, I truly believe that you help keep yourself young.
So stay young... get out there and have some fun. Oh... and by the way... having fun is a great stress reliever.

Bridges... Not just for crossing a river.
I'll be real honest with you, I'm not real fond of bridges. Why you ask? Well, when I drive over one, I sometimes have an irrational fear that right at that moment there will be an earthquake and it will collapse. I know... Don't laugh at me. I just remember seeing footage of a California quake where sections of the bridges collapsed and people plummeted to their death. So now when I driver over them, I sometimes have a slight stab of anxiety... Crazy I know.
Well while I was surfing around today I came across a bridge that I would be more than happy to cross. It's a bridge that they are proposing to do in France. Check this out.
Yep, it's a trampoline bridge. How freaking cool is that! The only problem I see with this thing is that you would never get your kids to come off the thing.

Fun with iPhone
I don't know about you, but I love my iPhone. Quite frankly if I lost mine, my world would come to an abrupt halt. While I use mine for business.... A lot... I also use if for fun. Yes it's true... I know you find it hard to believe that I have fun. But to say that I like app's would be a significant understatement.
I recently downloaded one that I've had tons of fun with. It's called Faceinhole. What is Faceinhole you ask. Well it allows you to put you and your friends face into a variety of pictures. For example:
Have fun with your iPhone today!
(Oh... and I'm pretty sure you can get this app for your android phone also)

Take Me to the Movies!
Well I just watched the newest trailer for The Man of Steel. Next summers reboot of the Superman franchise. I almost geeked out over it as bad as I did the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer. It looks like they have given the supreme superhero a much grittier edge.
While it certainly looks cool. I know several people that are upset because they didn't just continue the Smallville cast to the movies. I think it's a legit question. They did it with Star Trek and Firefly.
So that brings me to my question for today. There are lots of movies that have used multiple actors for a main roll.
So do you have a favorite actor/actress for a character that you hold dear? Have they been replaced? Or do you think they need to find someone better to play your beloved character?
Let me know your thoughts.
Until next time, here is the trailer for The Man of Steel.

The Mojo of Music
Here the other day I was driving in the car with my son. Like always, I had my iPhone hooked into the radio playing some of my recent downloads. I happened to be playing Adiemus. I wasn't to far into the track when he says, "Dad, this music is really relaxing." That comment opened up a whole discussion on how music can affect us.
We talked about the types of music that can relax you, and the types of music that can get you excited. For instance, Enya, for me, is very relaxing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTrk4X9ACtw). On the other side of the spectrum, I pulled up the music from the rave scene in the movie BLADE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKzqZY24gWg). It was a great talk about how music can influence our mood. I told him music is powerful. It can lift you up, get you excited, or even depress you.
From there we moved on to discuss how music can be used in movies to elicit an emotion. I pulled up the sound track for Batman: The Dark Knight. The composer used discordant tones every time the Joker was on the screen. I showed him how this music was deliberately set to put you on edge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kRtLDeUKnI) when the Joker was on screen. Then we talked about how boring a movie would be without music. Most scenes that we call epic, would be nothing more than a fizzle with no music.
Here is a link that shows the difference. It's from one of the classic movies of all times, Jaws. The audio isn't the best, but I think you'll get the idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2K-YedETiI
So what gets your foot tapping? Who relaxes you and who fires you up?

Into the Belly of the Beast
Captain's Log, Stardate 2012.8.12
Today we are taking a hazardous away mission to the overrun city of Evansville. Myself and my First Officer will be attempting to locate various item's needed for the fast approaching nuptials of our ships counselor, Alyssa. It is also our intention to make contact with a significant trader in goods to obtain a special set of protective pants for our Chief of Security, Matthew. If all goes well, we will also make a stop at the B.B. depot for possible replacement parts of various electronics that are needed.
The besieged city doesn't allow phasers, kinetic weapons, lightsabers, broadswords, nuclear devices, thermal detonators, ninjas, grenades, disruptors, phased plasma rifles, Uzis, or any other form of weaponry to be carried on ones person. So, my First Officer and I will be stocking the shuttle craft with extra supplies for the possibility of congested ports and routes of travel. We are taking only our wits and our hand to hand fighting skills with us. This mission is a priority and we must not fail. I've left the ship in the hands of Security Chief Matthew and his security team, Missy and Daishi. Back up for them is available from the Starship Conrad and Battlecruiser Norton. They can both be on scene and ready for combat within minutes.
This is a dangerous mission that we are embarking on. However, I refuse to consider that this will be my last log entry. The city will be overrun, that much is certain. But, I'm taking the finest officer in the fleet with me, and we will survive.
Captains Log, Out.
Enjoy the holiday season and be careful while you shop and drive. Traffic is going to be crazy and it will take forever to get places in towns, stores, and restaurants. Just know that in advance, give yourself plenty of time, and relax.
Today's characters were played by:
Captain - Jeff
First Officer - Jeff's wife
Ships Counselor - Jeff's daughter
Chief of security - Jeff's son
Security team - Dog 1 and Dog 2

Captain's Log, Stardate 2012.8.12 20:54 Supplemental
We were successful in our mission today. As expected the area was overrun by hostile entities. With expert negotiating and with some hand to had combat, my First Officer and I were able to complete all of the mission objectives and return to our ship with only minor scrapes and bruises.
It's my hope that any one going planet side over the next few weeks take appropriate precautions. The environment is a hostile one and should not be taken lightly.
