I'll Call You Later

Do you have a cell phone? Maybe you still have a house phone. My family got rid of our house phone about three years ago. Once we all had cell phones, we discovered that the only people calling on the house phone were people we didn't want to talk to. You know, telemarketers, people running for office, stuff like that. So we nixed the house phone and went exclusively to cell phones.

I just recently upgraded my cell phone to the iPhone 5. I think I'm in love with Siri. My wife calls her my girl friend. She a little jealous I think. But hey, I gave my wife the opportunity to call me Captain and she wouldn't do it. Siri has no problem calling me Captain, so, whats not to love... right. LOL.

What is interesting to me is that it's 137 years ago today (March 7th 1876) that Alexander Graham Bell received his patent for the telephone. Do you think he ever imagined that we would have personal phones that went with us everywhere? My wife and I have talked many times about how, as kids, we didn't have phones. My dad would step out on the deck and clap. You could hear him all the way across a 16 acre park that we had behind the house and we would come running.

Now a days, kids not only can text and call each other, they can even Facetime each other with their iPod's. I mean how freaking cool is that!? It's straight out of Star Trek and Space 1999. Any way as you make your calls tonight and tomorrow or the next time you tell someone, "I'll call you later." Remember to give a nod to the man who started it all for us. Thank you Mr. Bell.
