I'm sure at some point in your life you've seen this before:
Anyone who has been in the pool, tub, or pond to long has seen there fingers turn into prunes. I, like most of you probably thought that was natures way of saying, hey, you've been in the water too long it's time to get out.
However, new studies have revealed that this may in fact be your body responding to it's environment. The study showed that once the fingers pruned, the persons grip and dexterity under water improved. It's the same thing as having tread on your car tires vs having slick tires. If your tires are bald, you slide on wet pavement easier.
One of the points they make is that when a nerve is cut in the hand, the fingers don't prune anymore. Pretty significant proof that this is an autonomic response.
