To say that we have a diverse array of eating establishments would be, well, hilarious. We do not have fine dining per se. You ain't gonna find no escargot here. Well maybe on your front step in the morning, but not on a dinner plate, ya feel me. Let me list for you the eateries that are currently available in our wonderful town.
- McDonalds
- Dairy Queen
- Five Brothers (This is a sit down diner of sorts, you do get waited on here)
- Pizza Hut
- Classic Pizza
- Godfather's Pizza (Located in our HUCK'S gas station)
- Casey's Pizza (Also a gas station)
- Mach 1 (Also a gas station)
- Barbwire Grill (Another diner of sorts. Yes you are waited on here)
- IGA (They do some mean fried chicken.)
- Subway
- Cy's Ice Cream (It's not no 32 flavors, but they do a mean waffle cone and burger)
- DiMaggio's Pizza (This is some upscale pizza, you are waited on here also. AND they do other items also)
- Taco Tierra (Our version of Taco Bell, only gooder)
- El Mexicano (You get waited on here too)
- La Fuente (Another Mexican place. You're waited on here also)
All that said to prep you for today's story. In such a small town, it gets around pretty quick when one of these places is doing some kind of special. Well McDonald's had a special today. One they probably are glad won't come around again for a long time. In honor of 12-12-12, they offered Big Macs for $1.12 (limit 12 per customer). Now of course I was not going to miss out on a cheap Big Mac. So at noon, I went to purchase two of those bad boys.
What I witnessed was like the end of days. Cars were lined up the street waiting to go through the drive thru. Not willing to wait, I made the crazy decision to actually go into the beleaguered restaurant. As I entered the foyer, I was not happy to see no less than 25 people in line. What concerned me more was when they all turned to me and said they had already ordered. THEY WERE ALL WAITING FOR THEIR BIG MAC's. The poor staff was in chaos as they tried to fill the insane amount of orders for Big Mac's. It was like fast food had been reduced to bullet time in the Matrix.
After almost 8 minutes, I finally received my two Mac's. I know, 8 minutes isn't long. And your absolutely right. If I'm waiting for a steak or pizza or a filling to be drilled. In fast food time, that's like, four days.
So there you have it. Today I witnessed the most successful and well oiled fast food chain in the world, brought to it's knees, by a little town in Southern Illinois. (Never under estimate the power of a red neck)
Ya'll come back now!
